Complaints were made by Irish nationalists that British troops were still yet to leave Dublin and nor was there any sign of them making plans to depart.

Labour won the by-election at Manchester Clayton which had been caused by the death of the Conservative MP Edward Hopkinson. John Edward Sutton secured 14,662 votes for the Labour Party and William Henry Flanagan obtained 11,038 votes for the Liberal Party.
