The British Government announced that it was willing to consider recognising Egypt as an independent state and agreed, with certain conditions, to the creation of an Egyptian Parliament.

The German Government published proposals for a reform of the country’s tax system, as well as giving details of its proposed reparations schedule until 1923.

The death of the explorer Ernest Shackleton on 5 January 1922 was announced in the press.
