Negotiations restarted between the coal miners and the owners of the mines, although the Miners’ Federation said that their workers should not interfere with pumping arrangements even if that meant mines flooding.

The Government said that they were very pleased with the number of civilians who were joining the Defence Force to ensure the country’s infrastructure remained functioning, even in the event of a national strike.
