Debates continued in the House of Commons over the miners’ strike, with the MP for Sevenoaks, Thomas Bennett, calling for unions to be charged for the cost of repairing any mines lost to flooding. William Bridgeman, the Minister for Mines, said that the Government had in nearly all cases ensured that pit ponies would be spared, after some MPs feared that they would starve or be drowned if a mine was flooded.

Rufus Isaacs, 1st Marquess of Reading, the new Viceroy of India, arrived in Delhi where he was received in state at the railway station.
