It was confirmed that Speaker James W. Lowther would be standing down, having served in his role as Commons speaker since 1905. It was expected that John Henry Whitley would follow him as Speaker.

On the advice of Government Ministers, the Prince of Wales cancelled his planned visit to Norwich.

The Transport Workers’ Federation said that they needed more time to decide whether they would be supporting the miners in their all-out strike.
