A nine day long sit-in of students at the University of East Anglia came to an end. The protest had been from students who wanted an American student, William Hutchinson, reinstated following his expulsion for drugs offences.

There was a run of the bank at the Derbyshire Building Society, following rumours that they were struggling financially due to investments made to Rolls Royce. The Derbyshire said that the rumours were untrue and the Halifax Building Society confirmed that they would be helping to provide cash to ensure everyone who wanted to withdraw money could do so.

Sir Keith Joseph (in main image above) announced that there would be more cottage hospitals and smaller general hospitals constructed rather than large general hospitals. This was a reversal of the previous policy, with Joseph adding that more help would be encouraged from voluntary services.
