Hugh Scanlon (in main image above), the President of the Amalgamated Union of Engineering Workers, said that anyone who choose to try and go to work during the one-day strike called by his union would be named and brought before a tribunal of union officers. Scanlon denied the allegation that these would be kangaroo courts, but admitted that in closed shops the individual could be dismissed from their job.

A crowd attacked a military post in Springfield, Belfast, with missiles being thrown at army vehicles, although no injuries were reported.
