Keith Joseph (in main image above), the Secretary of State for Social Services announced in the House of Commons that additional funding would be made available for family planning. He also announced that a review into abortion would be launched, not to question the policy but to ensure that it was working as intended to prevent abortions on demand.
Robert Carr, the Minister of Employment, made a fourth attempt to bring the two sides together in the on-going postal strike which had been taking place for over a month.
The National Union of Teachers announced that they would oppose plans to take their pay dispute to independent arbitrators, saying “the dice would be completely loaded against teachers”.
