Harold Wilson (in main photo above), the Leader of the Opposition, criticised the policy of Edward Heath in dealing arms to South Africa. Wilson, who was speaking in Norwich, said that Heath had caused division at the Commonwealth Meeting and questioned whether the UK was legally contracted and obliged to send arms to South Africa as the Government was claiming.
Bob Mellish, the Labour Party’s Chief Whip, said that he would no longer be held responsible for the disruptive tactics of Labour MPs who were angry at how the Government had curtailed further debate on the Industrial Relations Bill. Francis Pym, the Conservative Party’s Chief Whip, said that debate on the matter had taken place over several weeks.
Veloce, the motorcycle manufacturer, confirmed that it was closing its Hall Green Factory.
