Kelly Tolhurst, the Housing Minister, has resigned from her role after receiving some “devastating family news”. Tolhurst had held the role since 2020, following a brief period as the Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Transport.
Tolhurst wrote to the Prime Minister:
“Following on from some devastating news for my family, after much consideration and deep reflection, it is with great sadness that I am writing to notify you of my intention to step down from my role as the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State in the Ministry of Housing, Communities, and Local Government, so that I am able to care for, and spend some precious time with my family in the coming months.”
Downing Street said that Eddie Hughes, currently a Government whip, has been appointed to the housing role, which also has responsibility for those who are rough sleeping.
