Lord Cavendish of Furness Retires from the House of Lords

Lord Cavendish of Furness has retired from the House of Lords, having been elevated to the Peerage in May 1990 on the recommendation of Margaret Thatcher, the then Prime Minister.

Norman Fowler, the Lord Speaker, said in the House of Commons:

“My Lords, I should like to notify the House of the retirement, with effect from 1 January, of the noble Lord, Lord Cavendish of Furness, pursuant to Section 1 of the House of Lords Reform Act 2014. On behalf of the House, I thank the noble Lord for his much-valued service to the House.”
