100 Years Ago – 25 December 1920
It was reported in the press that David Lloyd George, the Prime Minister, had repeated that there could be no settlement in Ireland for as long as Sinn Fein resorted to assassinations and violence to get their way. Michael O’Flanagan, the Acting President of Sinn Fein, said to the British that “it is only necessary for your Government to cease to violate, or to set aside, your own constitution in your attack on the liberty of the Irish. Sinn Fein is a peaceful organisation. The violent attack made on it has led to violent reactions”.
