Government Launches Consultation onto Banning Primates as Pets

The Government has launched a consultation onto whether individuals should be banned from keeping primates as pets. The public have been invited to engage with the consultation, with further information at The consultation is expected to close on 6 February 2021 and the Government is expected to report back by the summer of 2021.

A spokesperson for the Department of the Environment, Food and Rural Affairs said in a statement:

“This consultation sets out our core policy proposal and asks for your views on whether it is the right approach. The consultation also asks for views on additional measures, and on suggestions relating to the practicalities of how new restrictions might apply.”
