Winston Churchill made an appeal in London for more men to join the Territorial Army, expressing his concerns about the number of people in the service. He said “we must have a force of regular troops who can at short notice proceed to the scene, but we cannot do that”.

The admission of women to receive the full rights of membership of Cambridge University was defeated by 192 votes, with 904 against and 712 for.

The town clerk of Dublin was served with a notice which stated that the military would be taking over all of the municipal buildings on Castle Street.
