Henry Long, Albert Bowers and Jessie Cole, all convicted of the killing of PC Andrew Harper, are to have their sentences reviewed for undue leniency. The three were found guilty of manslaughter and Long was sentenced for 16 years, whilst Bowers and Cole were sentenced to 13 years each.
Suella Braverman, the Attorney General, said in a statement that this was “an horrific crime which resulted in the death of a much-respected police officer while he was on-duty, protecting his community”. Braverman has confirmed that all three cases will be referred to the Court of Appeal for the sentences to be reconsidered.
Lissie Harper, the wife of the killed police officer, said in a statement:
“This is great news and we thank the attorney general for her swift decision. The sentences for Andrew’s killers did not match their heinous crime. It was not justice and it needs to be addressed.”
