Charles Elphicke, the Conservative MP for Dover from 2010 and 2019, has been found guilty of two sexual assaults following a court trial at Southwark Crown Court. Elphicke accepted during the trial that he had lied to police and he will be sentenced on 15 September 2020.
Mrs Justice Whipple, the presiding judge, said:
“All options remain very much on the table, including the possibility of an immediate custodial sentence.”
Natalie Elphicke, his wife of 25 years, is the current Conservative MP for Dover and she announced on Twitter that she would be divorcing the disgraced former MP. She posted:
“Today’s verdict is one that brings profound sorrow. It ends my 25 year marriage to the only man I have ever loved. I would ask for some personal space and time to come to terms with the shocking events of the last 3 years. I will not be commenting further.”
