Over 180,000 People Join the Labour Party in 48 Hours


The Labour Party has confirmed that 183,541 people have joined the party over the last 48 hours. Each of these members would have paid the £25 membership fee which will entitle them to a vote in the Labour leadership election.

A spokesman for Jeremy Corbyn, the current party leader, said that they thought it was a “reasonable assumption” that the majority of these new members who back his continued leadership.

The other candidate is Owen Smith, after Angela Eagle withdrew from the contest yesterday.
