Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister, has been admitted to hospital after having persistent symptoms of the coronavirus. Dominic Raab, the First Secretary of State will take over the chairing of the daily coronavirus meetings, although the Prime Minister is expected to remain in control of the Government’s agenda.
A spokesperson for the Prime Minister said in a statement:
“On the advice of his doctor, the Prime Minister has tonight been admitted to hospital for tests. This is a precautionary step, as the Prime Minister continues to have persistent symptoms of coronavirus ten days after testing positive for the virus.
The Prime Minister thanks NHS staff for all of their incredible hard work and urges the public to continue to follow the Government’s advice to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives.”
Donald Trump, the President of the United States, said in a press meeting:
“All Americans are praying for him. He’s a great friend of mine, a great gentleman and a great leader.”
