Theresa May Wins First Round of Conservative Leadership Contest Decisively

Theresa May, the Home Secretary, has won the first round of the Conservative leadership contest by a comfortable margin. The lowest placed of the five candidates, Liam Fox, has been eliminated.

Theresa May – 165 votes

Andrea Leadsom – 66 votes

Michael Gove – 48 votes

Stephen Crabb – 34 votes

Liam Fox – 16 votes

The next round of the contest will take place on Thursday.
