Matt Hancock

The Government has confirmed that it has recommended Peter Riddell to be appointed as the new Commissioner for Public Appointments.

Matt Hancock, the Minister for the Cabinet Office, said:

“Public appointments cover some of the most important roles in the country, and I am delighted to say Peter Riddell will be the next Commissioner for Public Appointments.

This will be a challenging role. Peter’s distinguished record makes him ideally suited. I very much look forward to working with him to introduce greater transparency and tackle the bureaucracy around public appointments to help attract a diverse range of high calibre people to serve their country in these important roles”.

Peter Riddell is currently the Director of the Institute for Government. Previously, he was a journalist for nearly 40 years, split between the Financial Times and The Times.
