Mike Ashley from Sports Direct Refuses to Attend Select Committee

Mike Ashley, the Deputy Executive Chairman of Sports Direct, has refused an invitation from the Business, Skills and Innovation Committee to discuss working practices in his company.

The committee may now move to force Ashley to attend with Iain Wright, the committee’s chairman, saying:

“I’m very disappointed that Mr Ashley has refused to accept the committee’s request to come and give evidence in Parliament, like every other witness for every other select committee voluntarily does”.

Ashley said that MPs were welcome to visit the company’s offices but he refused to attend Westminster as he felt that “MPs were showboating” and added “they don’t care about the people, they care about the business of politics”.
