Labour have won the Oldham West and Royton by-election held on 3 December 2015 with UKIP coming in the second place. The by-election was held following the death of the former MP for the constituency, Labour’s Michael Meacher.

The new MP is Jim McMahon who was previously the leader of Oldham Metropolitan Borough Council although he has now stood down from this role after winning the seat. Labour won the seat with an increased share of the vote although the majority fell due to a smaller voter turnout.

The result was:

Jim McMahon (Labour) – 17,209 votes (62.1%)

John Bickley (UKIP) – 6,487 votes (23.4%)

James Daly (Conservative) – 2,596 (9.4%)

Jane Brophy (Liberal Democrat) – 1,024 (3.7%)

Simeon Hart (Green) – 249 (0.9%)

Sir Oink-a-Lot (Monster) – 141 (0.5%)
